01 / FROM SIGNAL TO SCREEN

Your signal.
One connected workflow.

Keep your broadcast infrastructure.
Add a dedicated layer for speech, subtitles and operational control.

FLEXIBLE INPUT

Start with the source you already have.

De-embed PCM audio from supported DekTec SDI hardware, or select an audio PID from an IP MPEG-TS source. With SDI, TellMe handles audio; your external encoder continues to handle video.

  • SDI video standard and signal visibility
  • Audio group / pair selection
  • IP input probing and audio PID selection

02 / THE OPERATOR’S VIEW

Complex underneath.
Clear on the surface.

See the whole chain. Inspect the component.
Change what you need — without losing the bigger picture.

● ● ●TELLME / BROADCAST CONTROLUI CAPTURE · 1.2.4
Every channel. Every component. One view.Service status, running time and component controls — together in a single workspace.

Actual TellMe UI, captured in an isolated demo instance. Channel names, status and telemetry are illustrative, not performance measurements.

01

Control without the clutter.

Guided service configuration, inline help and reusable subtitle presets. Import and export service definitions for repeatable deployments.

02

See beyond “running”.

Inspect input signal, ASR timing, subtitle output and MUX counters. Distinguish a running process from an active data path.

03

Keep operators in control.

Admin, operator and viewer roles. Component-level restart controls and an API subtitle gate for commercial breaks.

03 / MADE TO BE READ

Live pace.
Film-like phrases.
Your presentation.

Choose rolling captions for continuous speech, or complete-phrase presentation for a different viewing rhythm. Shape the region, font and size in Subtitle Designer, then save the look as a preset.

CLOSED CAPTIONS / BUILT INTO THE SIGNAL

More than a subtitle track.
Part of the picture’s data.

CEA-708 closed captions for encoded H.264 and H.265 / HEVC programmes. No video transcoding.

CEA-708

A dedicated caption encoder.

Independent caption layout, with one- or two-row presentation, incremental text updates and configurable position, pen size, colors and background opacity. DVB bitmap and teletext keep their own layouts.

EXTENDED P16

A broader character repertoire.

Optional extended character handling through P16 alongside the standard CEA-708 character sets. Character coverage depends on the configured encoder profile and receiver implementation; it is not a promise of universal Unicode support.

H.264 + HEVC

Insert captions. Keep the video.

The integrated MUX inserts caption data into SEI messages in the encoded video stream. A bounded CC frame buffer supports injection; caption-specific buffering is enabled only when CC is enabled.

RECEIVER COMPATIBILITY

Caption positioning, size, colors and extended characters may render differently across TVs and players. Verify your target receivers and any HLS packaging chain. TellMe’s integrated MUX is required for CC injection; the external-MUX subtitle TS path remains available for DVB and teletext.

04 / TIMING IS PART OF THE PRODUCT

Words belong
with the moment.

Encoding takes time. Recognition takes time. TellMe gives you tools to understand the difference — and configure the subtitle timing budget deliberately.

SDI INPUT

Dynamic audio correlation

Match direct SDI PCM against decoded programme audio to estimate encoder latency. Smooth the estimate; hold the last stable value and warn when correlation is lost.

IP INPUT

Smart PTS Sync

Observe matching compressed audio on input and programme reference. Measure timing reserve and recommend a delay — without automatically changing timestamps or MUX delay.

Manual timing remains available. Translation may need a larger delay budget. Actual latency depends on the source, model and broadcast chain.

05 / ENGINEERING DETAILS

DEPLOYMENT NOTE

The control and media components run on your server. Speech recognition and translation require connectivity to the external ASR engine. SDI requires compatible hardware; channel capacity and translation availability depend on the installation’s license and resources.

GOOD QUESTIONS / STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Before you go on air.

Does TellMe encode my video?+

No. TellMe extracts or decodes audio for recognition and generates subtitle streams. Its integrated MUX inserts subtitles into an already encoded programme. In an SDI workflow, your external encoder remains responsible for video encoding.

Can I use my existing multiplexer?+

Yes, for DVB and teletext. CEA-708 SEI injection requires TellMe’s integrated MUX. For the external-MUX workflow, disable the integrated MUX, send the subtitle TS over your selected interface and configure the external programme reference. Your external MUX must map the subtitle PIDs and publish the appropriate descriptors.

What happens during a commercial break?+

The subtitle control API can stop and resume subtitle output without stopping ASR or the programme MUX. The SUBs indicator reflects the output gate state in the control plane.

How do translation tracks work?+

Original subtitles are retained. Enabled target languages receive individual DVB bitmap tracks, PIDs and page descriptors. The first translation shares the original recognition session; additional translations use additional sessions. Original-language teletext is unchanged.

Is there a guaranteed latency or channel count?+

No single figure fits every broadcast. Recognition, translation, source timing and the receiving chain all matter. Validate representative audio and your actual receivers, then size the server and timing budget for the intended licensed workload.
